Tuesday Treasure

I inherited this brooch from my grandma which was a wonderful surprise as she was a very practical woman and jewellery was only worn on very special occasions.
My father believes it came from his grandmother as the family were quite well off and important members of their community.
I am just so happy to have it in my possession.
Check with the queen of treasure to see who else is playing this week.

Surprise -

Playing again - this time with the fabric I got on Thursday and the biggest Apple Core template - 9+ inches long - too fun.

We cut a stack

Dressed them up

Then there were four

The top was completed on Sunday evening while dinner cooked.
Oopsie is proving to be a very helpful sewing assistant, she like a new project just as well as all the best sewing assistants. Lucky me!

(that would have to be an almost perfect weekend)

No Surprises

Oopsie has been watching over proceedings in the sewing room.
Cutting fabric with the new templates we bought way back in June.
Playing at the sewing machine - I used the second largest of the templates (7+ inches long) and it is easy to sew on the machine.
Just a few to see if we like it??
Today before work I visited the Lincraft store - what I was really looking for was the small sized rotary cutter - they were out of stock, but they had these fat quarters on super cheap and someone had already been playing with the bundles so I made two that suited me from the various bits that were loose on the shelf.
Align Center
Lots of fun prints, checks and stripes to play with.
Happy Weekend
(Oh and Jindi tell your mum not to get too excited just because I have been cutting fabric into little pieces to sew back together again)

Tuesday Treasure

Simple and practical, created with love by my Grandma.
No two were ever the same and we all got one every year for our birthday.
I sure treasure these bright reminders of the talent of my Grandma.
Head on over and check with the Queen of treasure to see who else is playing.

Conversion

Take the blocks completed in the quilt a long hosted by the generous Rachel over at ps i quilt earlier this year,
add sashing and binding fabric (pictured here with felt brought on the same trip),
A sunny winter weekend and lots of quality time spent with Nomee - the ever faithful sewing machine that lives at my house.
A warm and sunny quilt all ready to snuggle under.
I enjoyed playing with this quilt as you go method and will certainly be using it again, no hand sewing at the end to slow the finish.
Hope your weekend was full of sunny crafting progress.

Results from Friday night Sew In

We trimmed the blocks.

Played with the layout, but it seems the blocks had their own idea.

Not paying close enough attention!

There was plenty of unsewing happening!

Now we've got it the right way.

And by midnight we had pairs.

Oopsie inspecting in the light of day.

Oopsie sure is handy in the sewing room.
I am using a quilt as you go method for these blocks and had all the individual blocks quilted before Friday.
After a slow start we got it happening and I am very happy with this progress.
Thanks to Heidi and Bobbi for coordinating the Friday night Sew In.
Happy Weekend.

Tonights the Night...

For August Friday Night Sew In hosted by Heidi and Bobbi.
Oopsie is keeping her eye on proceedings in the sewing room.
Looking forward to making good progress on the Pinwheels - can't wait to see them come together.
Sure is quilt weather here.
Enjoy your weekend and stay warm.

Crafting 'ADD'

The beginning of my Flat Nat designed by the talented Natalie Lymer of Cinderberry Stitches.

Some quilting on my pinwheel blocks from the quilt a long.

A warm and fluffy beanie finished for the cool windy weather we are currently experiencing.

Progress on my purple version of the textured vest pattern in a '90's magazine.

As you can see there has been some progress on two projects, a finish and a start.
Focussing is just not my strong point, especially when I have a whole day to play!

Oopsie...

So I played in the pincushion challenge over at Pins and Needles.

The rules were quite clear about only using what you had to hand - well there really wasn't a problem with that - Plenty of resources in the warehouse - so I decided to play with the scrap basket.

Now I have a new friend in the sewing room.

Look mum tippie toes.

Just hanging out inside where it is warm and dry.
Altered pattern, Oopsie by Melanie Hurlston, from the Moda Bakeshop
So much fun.

New (or almost)

A new friend to take on stitchy outings.

Well she will be when I make her, I chose the fabric today and maybe I will start tomorrow?

I have wanted this pattern since I first saw her on Natalies blog - now it has come to live at my house - Yay.

Now the pincushion for the challenge over at Pins and Needles has a mind of its own -

Let's just she wheelie is a challenge.

Slowly she emerges from her safe place...

Need to focus - as I deadline is Monday.

Hope you have time for creative activity.

Tuesday Treasure

Whilst I am unaware of the age or origin of this thimble I consider it a treasure.

As you can see it is quite well used and it fits perfectly so it is a very useful addition to my sewing kit.

My mother claimed it for me when her oldest sister passed away in 2005 aged 90.
For reasons only past family members know this sister did not grow up with her siblings, but she did get to know a lot of them and the extended family in the last 15 years of her life.
I never met this lady, but from the stories I heard and this small reminder I understand she was quite an accomplished needlewoman.
I guess stitching and sewing really is in my genetic make up.
You can find more treasures by visiting with the queen of treasure.

Finished

Today was a cold rainy day here, lucky for me it was not a work day -

perfect for spending time in the sewing room.

I spent a large part of today playing with my sewing machine and I have a finish.

My version of the Sample Scarf designed by Jodie of Ric Rac.

It is backed with a soft flannel fabric making it nice and cosy.
Now to deliver it to Miss15 a belated birthday present.
There was some other progress but I'll leave that for another time, who knows when I will get this much time to sew again??
Hope your world is full of all the things you like best and plenty of creative opportunities.

Mr Owl

This is the remainder of the picture for the patchwork scarf.

Oooh - now I get to play with my sewing machine, which has been feeling neglected of late, there may even be a finish soon??

Having some daylight for crafting certainly aids productivity in my space.

Wishing you all a happy Wednesday and may you be just where you wish to be today.

Starting again!!

A whole day at home and I think I can achieve amazing things in the sewing room -

So I started

playing with some scraps and this is what I have so far, small parts which will become a pincushion for the challenge that I am participating in over at Pins and Needles.

And a new stitchery from the lovely Jodie @ Ric-Rac which is part of a patchwork scarf pattern we received at the Daylesford Craft Experience last month.

I did not complete quilting the wall hanging - the next target date is in 18 days -

I plan to do some each day to get if finished!
