Another Annie Angel completed - looking a little contemplative. Having seen plenty of gadget/glasses cases around cyberspace I decided that this may just be something that I could use - lets hope it works. I used another Red Brolly stitchery design this time one of the bears from the Little Chicken Feather and Friends book. I made the case to fit my phone and other essentials.
Tomorrow is the start of the Australasian Quilt Convention here in Melbourne and I am going to be there for the next three days. I will be working, but I don't think it will be too much of a chore, I'll still have an opportunity to check out the displays.

Can you say Pretty?

Look what the mailman left for me this week... What is inside the pretty pink paper? Ooh - Look a pretty Tilda book, a lovely fat quarter and a nice smelly thing for my drawer.
This pretty package came from Fiona of Mother's Cupboard and is my prize from the Bunny Challenge. Yippee Me! Thanks Fiona and just in time for a long weekend - I wonder how many things I might be tempted to start?

Whirly gigs and flowers

The pin wheel blocks are hanging out together in some kind of random arrangement - trying to decide on a colour for the sashing/border/binding. The blocks are 12 inches square finished, so it will be a good size for a couch throw with narrow sashing and borders. Enjoying the unseasonably warm weather we have been having and all the colour in the neighbourhood - the across the road neighbours have these beautiful red roses around their front garden.
Native red flowering gum - this fluffy one
and then this one that is very round and looks like spikey balls.
I have no clue what their proper names are, I just admire them every time I walk past and remembered to take my camera and get some photo's earlier this week.
Hope you are enjoying your Friday and have a fun weekend planned with lots of crafty opportunities.

Pin Wheel Blocks

These are the last of the blocks for the Pinwheel sampler quilt along hosted by Rachel over at p.s. i quilt Block 7 For Block 8, which is the last Rachel told us to choose our own and provided links to some suggestions. Doesn't she know that it is too hard to choose one when I don't have a clue?? So I tried this block called SeeSaw
and this block called Mosaic, which may just be my favourite block of all especially in the green and purple.
Now I have extras and I am up to the really hard part - How to put all these blocks together? I have to find a space on the floor so I can lay them out to see how they work together. (Guess that means it's time to tidy up)
Thanks Rachel for the easy to follow tutorials for the blocks.

Sweet Project Bag

As I had a late afternoon job Friday I got my sewing things prepared before I left - good thing really as I decided my project bag really needed more green. Successful shopping at Bargain Box in Melton, perfect greens to complete my project bag. What did I acheive at Friday Night Sew-In? I prepared the back - the girls stitchery is the main part of the pocket,
and the front - it took me the longest time to get that circle on their with the ric rac sitting flat - I am sure there is an easier way to do it but I just couldn't figure it out last night.
Thanks to Heidi and Bobbi for hosting the Friday Night Sew-In, it is fun to see what everybody sews up.
I continued to work on the Project bag today and now it is done - Yay!
The front ...
and the back.
While the bag is not very deep, the wide gusset makes it quite roomy. The design is from the talented Bronwyn Hayes of Red Brolly, could just be my new favourite bag to take to cafe craft nights. What's next? I'm working on the Sweet Needlecase that matches - another stitched group of girls on the outside, but first I need to go find me some cake.

Sewing with the girls

Here we are at Friday again and tonight happens to be the the night for April's Friday Night Sew-In hosted by Heidi and Bobbi. It is not too late to join go on over to Heidi's blog to sign up. Here are the girls I have been working on sharing tea and cake with a little stitching thrown in - this is my vision of all the ladies participating in the Friday Night Sew-In. I have finished all the stitching for this part of the project and intend to put it together tonight.

Shopping at the Mother's

Over Easter I went to visit the Old People and the Mother had all these goodies for me to browse. It's good having a Mother who volunteers at an OpShop where lots of crafty stuff gets deposited - I do have to share with S-R and SIL-J so you can imagine there was plenty of goodies in the latest offerings because this is what I got after they had already made their selection. Lou Lou is a commercial doll - but extra cute - she came in without her clothes, but she still has her swing tag attached. My mission is to make a new outfit so that she can be sold on one of the community stalls that the auxillary have regularly. She is perched on two good sized peices of cotton batting - honestly do people not know what it is they are donating? Next a good quantity of Bendigo Woollen Mills 100% wool yarn - those are 200g balls so I have enough to make a project for me that I have been thinking about starting - that should be a happening thing soon.
Perfect colour and the right weight - it was obviously meant to be.
Lastly there is fabric - all metreage. The Bear print is a uphostery weight fabric, I know I will find a good use for it. The others are all cotton fabrics most likely destined to become quilt backings.
Hope your week was a good one.
Happy weekend

Beyond the Garden Gate

A design by the talented Leanne May of Candlelight Creations. My version finished and I am very happy. I started this quilt with a friend early in 2006 and the completed top has been languishing in a bag since late in 2008.
The original pattern - yes, I omitted the applique tongues on the blocks and changed the colours to bright, but I did stick with the actual block design. I used navy to frame the blocks, for the narrow border and binding.
The background for the stitcheries is a very fine check, it also appears in the corners of the blocks and the outer border.
These three blocks make up the top row of the quilt.
My first April finish - may there be more!
Hope your week is going well with lots of creative spaces.
